Israel has denied entry to a Wayne State University student of Palestinian descent traveling to the country for a study-abroad program, prompting criticism fron civil-rights groups, reports the Associated Press. The student, Abeer Afana, was born in United States, but Israeli authorities said they had sent her home because her parents were from the Gaza Strip and she had once held a Palestinian passport. They said that their refusal to admit her followed a longstanding rule and that she would have to travel through Jordan to enter Israel. The Arab-American Anti-Discrimination Committee and other advocacy groups are protesting the decision.
