An Indian university has made Hindi, a northern Indian language, compulsory for its foreign students but not for its Indian students, reports the Web site Higher Education in India. S.S. Dahiya, a member of the academic council of the Chaudhry Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University, in Hisar, in the northern Indian state of Haryana, said that the institution’s decision was meant to enable foreign students to better understand India’s cultural heritage.
