The Indian government plans to set aside 50 percent of student seats at five of 14 planned “innovation universities” for members of the Indian diaspora, reports The Hindu newspaper. Legislation to establish the universities has been introduced in the Indian Parliament. “This is an interesting concept as the focus of these universities will be only on innovation,” said Didar Singh, an official at India’s Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs. “Students won’t be bothered about passing exams or marks.”
