Professors at Pakistan’s 72 public universities went on strike Wednesday as part of a salary dispute with the federal government, reports The Express Tribune. The government has cut funds for the agency that finances and oversees the universities, the Higher Education Commission, jeopardizing pay for faculty members. In August the commission’s chairman, Javaid Laghari, said the agency was on the verge of bankruptcy because of fiscal constraints.
