Many higher-education institutions in the Philippines lack “adequate facilities,” said the chair of the country’s Commission on Higher Education, Patricia Licuanan, reports Business Insight Malaya. She said that only 83 of the 1,791 colleges and universities in the country could provide a quality education. The newspaper reports that the Philippines has seen the rapid expansion of colleges and universities: As many as 90 new institutions and 479 new satellite campuses have opened since 2007. But government financial support has fallen short, and this year’s budget for higher education has been cut.
