Egypt’s Administrative Court on Saturday upheld a previous ruling that bans the supervision of university affairs by government security officers, the Web site Daily News Egypt reported, but sources suggested that the Interior Ministry might balk at complying. The ruling stems from a lawsuit filed two years ago by a group of university professors who oppose government oversight of academe. It holds that the presence of Interior Ministry security officers on campuses is illegal and says that universities should hire civilian officers to replace them.
