Questions are being raised about a new $47.35-million China academic center and the Australian government’s decision to establish it at the Australian National University, reports The Australian newspaper. Critics say that Kevin Rudd, a former prime minister, unfairly helped the university, which is his alma mater, to host the center. They say the decision-making process should have been more open and public. The university’s vice chancellor, Ian Chubb, dismissed the accusations. “Yesterday’s roosters are yesterday’s roosters,” he told the newspaper. “Other people always want transparency except when it applies to them.”
