Is history repeating itself? Female academics in Canada say they are discouraged — some even say “outraged” — that 19 men and no women received prestigious Canada Excellence Research Chairs on Monday, reports The Toronto Star. In 2003 a group of female researchers took the government to the Human Rights Commission over the gender disparity in the awarding of the initial round of Canada Research Chairs. That publicity resulted in greater transparency in the selection process and increased numbers of female recipients of the chairs. They can’t believe it’s happening all over again, according to the Canwest news service.
