A Canadian researcher has lost his grant money for repeatedly claiming credit for published work that was, in fact, never published, reports the Postmedia news agency. After an investigation, the Natural Science and Engineering Research Council, one of Canada’s federal science agencies, cut off the researcher’s financing and banned the scientist from applying for grants for five years. The agency will continue to support the Ph.D. students under the researcher’s supervision. The agency refused to name the person, citing Canadian privacy laws. But the decision has renewed the calls for more openness in Canadian academic fraud issues.
