Canada Has the Talent but Lags in Innovation, Says Report

Canada is failing to use its research talent and cutting-edge university research facilities make itself into a major player in scientific innovation, says a report by Canada’s Science, Technology, and Innovation Council, which advises the federal government.

The report points out that Canada scores high marks on education-related indicators and is highly regarded for collaborative research. Its success in recruiting global talent is an opportunity to rise from its current midlevel position in innovation, the report says. But research knowledge, it notes, has to get to the marketplace to ensure the country’s prosperity.
