Bangladesh’s Higher-Education System Shows Signs of Trouble

Bangladesh’s college-age population is being denied access to higher education because public universities lack space, while private universities charge high tuitions, says an editorial in The Financial Express newspaper. At an education seminar Tuesday, professors complained about the country’s higher-education system, with one saying it is failing to create centers of research and innovation, reports the newspaper. A little more than 8 percent of Bangladesh’s high-school graduates have access to higher education, according to a 2008 report by the country’s higher-education regulator.
