Australian Higher Education Falls Behind Other Countries, Says University Leader

May 4, 2011, 2:33 pm

Australian universities are falling behind their international peers, says Paul Greenfield, vice chancellor of the University of Queensland and the leader of the Group of Eight, a coalition of major research universities, reports the Australian Associated Press. Mr. Greenfield says he is concerned about the ratio of students to faculty members, the decline in international students in Australia, and the increase in federal regulations of higher education. He also says universities in China, Canada, South Korea, and Singapore are making headway and could displace Australian institutions in international rankings.
