The Delicate Art of Blog Citation

Quite a few academic bloggers have commented (not always kindly) on a set of blog citation guidelines recently promulgated by the National Library of Medicine.

As the guidelines suggest, writing a proper blog citation requires time, care, and precision.

But we at The Chronicle have been practicing our skills with the NLM citation rules, and maybe we can save you a bit of effort. If you’re writing a paper for a medical journal and you’d like to cite any (or all) of the following five blog posts, feel free to copy and paste the citations below into your bibliography:

  1. As honored as I am to be cited here, for one of my most memorable posts, I should make a correction: as my archives indicate, I’ve only been at Ferule & Fescue since May 2006, and in the blogosphere since May 2005.

It’s the academic mystery, not the blogging one, that I’ve been discrediting since 1999.
