Footnoted Takes a Summer Break

As academic blogs slow down for the summer, we’ve decided to take a short break at Footnoted. We’ll be using the time to take a step back to see how the blog is going — and how it could be reshaped or improved. We’d love to hear from you with any ideas, suggestions, praise, or even scorn. Just send an e-mail to footnoted@chronicle.com Thanks so much for reading and commenting.

In the meantime, here are the five most popular items from the past few months:

  1. hello jeff and the rest of the footnoted crew!

first, thanks for an interesting and informative blog.

second, my main question is how do folks suggest material for footnoted to blog? on a number of occasions over the last year i have emailed the address you list above to suggest a story idea and didn’t hear squat – no email reply, no blog post, nothing. i strongly think that a blog like footnoted will get stronger and more diverse if it allows its readers to suggest ideas but if these ideas are ignored then readers will be less motivated to suggest future ideas. you know?

third, most blogs have a slot for commenters to add a URL to their blog or web site – why doesn’t footnoted have this?

and fourth, i really like how you include so many library/librarian-related blog posts. footnoted has done a fairly good job at bridging the silly divide that often exists between faculty and librarians. thanks.

anyways, i think footnoted has established a strong and interdisciplinary foundation and i’ll look forward to more when the fall returns.

  2. I think you should do more to encourage educators to submit and post their blogs. Here is a blog I made, and though I’ve taught in both higher ed and K-12, I am not teaching at the moment, as I am trying to write. But we have a new superintendent in this school district, and neither the school district nor local newspaper will disclose much info or a required application for him. So, I made a blog about his actual background in the form of a 10-question multiple choice quiz. Enjoy:
