Down From the Tower

Melissa Harris-Lacewell's feet hurt. Why? Her pain stems from "six hours of doing the Barack victory boogie in my living room." At least she is self-aware enough to admit that she is "drinking the Kool-Aid and loving every minute of it."

Harris-Lacewell, who is an associate professor of politics and African-American studies at Princeton University, offers her thoughts in the initial post of Down From the Tower, a blog at the new online magazine The Root. (Click here to watch The Root's editor, Henry Louis Gates Jr., explain what the magazine is all about.)

Harris-Lacewell's blogging partner is Marc Lamont Hill, an assistant professor of urban education and American studies at Temple University. The blog is described by Harris-Lacewell as an "on-going conversation between ... two progressive, young, African-American professors who nonetheless often have very different takes on politics, culture and race."

For starters, Hill is far more skeptical about Obama's progressive credentials than Harris-Lacewell.
