Investing in Fund Raising Is Paying Off in South Carolina
The University of South Carolina has hired 15 additional fund raisers and added two marketing staff members to its development office. The increase in resources is starting to pay off, according to an article in The State.
The university has seen a 58-percent increase in private donations in the first half of the fiscal year, collecting $50-million compared with $31.6-million last year. The number of donors has almost doubled from 14,539 last year to 27,000 in the current fiscal year.
In its last major fund-raising campaign, which ended in 2002, South Carolina raised about $500-million. In its next campaign, $1-billion may not be out of the question, officials told the newspaper.
“What has not been in place in the past was an adequate advancement staff,” said Brad Choate, vice president for advancement. “What we have put in place is beginning to get some traction.”

If this university used the development plan developed by Dr. Kern Wildenthal at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas, they would be using donor funds by re-gifting with donor dollars by buying donors gifts, flowers, popcorn and throwing fancy parties with expensive wine in order to raise more money.Girls Scounts could sell more cookies if they bought cookies for everyone that bought cookies. This university used its very own internal auditor to determine that “all expenses were 100% legitimate”.What else could he say and still have a job???
