Study Suggests U. of California Raise $2-Billion for Financial Aid
The University of California regents were presented with a report this week asking that they consider creating a $2-billion endowment for extra financial aid. According to the Los Angeles Times, the idea came from a study regarding the affordability of undergraduate education. The endowment would be paid for in private donations, raised over the next 10 years.
But the regents had mixed reactions to the proposal, fearing that a new fund-raising campaign would detract from donations given to other needs like research and hospitals.
The plan also suggested "finding more lucrative returns on university investments" to put toward scholarships.
