Edwards Calls Bush 'Shortsighted' on Education
John Edwards took a swipe at President Bush’s record on education, calling the current administration “extremely shortsighted” when it comes to making students globally competitive.
Speaking on Sunday at a presidential-candidate forum on education at the University of Northern Iowa, the Democratic former senator also took time to reiterate his ideas for reforming education, from pre-kindergarten to post-college, including his “College for Everyone” plan and his proposal to train top graduates to become teachers.
Mike Huckabee, a Republican and former governor of Arkansas, is the next candidate scheduled to speak at the forum, later this week.

OK. Can we have an agreement between politicians and responsible citizens? Before you talk about putting into place grand schemes for trillions of dollars to fight men in caves, give massive tax cuts, provide universal healthcare and provide preschool and college for everyone and every other bright idea that comes to mind, you first have to (a) propose how you are going to eliminate the structural deficit; (b) how you are going to eliminate the accumulated deficit; (c) how you are going to pay for future costs for massive programs already in place. I’m not interested in the neo-cons and Giuliani’s never ending war or Hillary’s universal health care or Edwards’ college-for-all. Not right now. I’m interested in not bankrupting my country and my children and my grandchildren. It’s called usufruct.
