Salem State College Lecture Could Be an Affair to Remember
The lecture series at Salem State College, 21 miles north of Boston, is already well known for attracting a wide variety of high-profile politicians, artists, writers, and athletes.
But this year’s event — a “conversation” with former presidential candidate John Edwards and his wife Elizabeth — took on a new significance last week, when Mr. Edwards admitted to an affair with a campaign staffer in 2006.
The college, which has presented the series since 1982, is still planning to hold the September 23 event, but is consulting with corporate sponsors who are footing the bill for the Edwards’ speaking fees, reports The Boston Globe.

I proposeth that we placeth the sinner Edwards in a cloak of red, in a pillory midst the Salem town square wherein the good citizens can have at the scoundrel, and whereupon afterwards he shall be obliged to donneth the letter “P” which in our Hebrew brethern’s tongue standeth for “putz.”

I doubt that the young College Republicans, who seem to monitor this campaign blog, and who, absent reason or logic, jump in quickly to find in any situation presented or proposition advanced some alleged defect in Barack Obama, will be able to match the perspicacity of “Dimsdale,” thus allowing us to hope that in this instance they will abstain, sparing us such a pronouncement as “the touchy Edwards situation in Salem underscores Obama’s unfitness to be President.”

To Mr. Ward,
Who monitors the blog? Who jumps in quickly?

Hmm… Clearly, Obama didn’t want the Edwards affair to leak out too early, and just as clearly keeping it underwraps helped take primary votes from Hillary. Obama’s plan worked.
