2008 Primaries and Caucuses Brought Big Increase in Youth Vote
The 2008 presidential election cycle is the third in a row in which the number of citizens under 30 who participated in primaries and caucuses rose substantially, according to an analysis by the Center for Information and Research on Civic Learning and Engagement at the University of Maryland at College Park.
In the 17 states where exit polls were conducted in both the 2000 and 2008 primary seasons, the share of youth voters turning out for primaries and caucuses almost doubled, rising from 9 percent in 2000 to 17 percent in 2008, the center found. In some states, three or four times as many young people participated in 2008 as had done so eight years before.
Nationally, a record 6.5 million voters under the age of 30 participated this year, the center found.
Barack Obama was heavily favored by Democrats under the age of 30, winning 60 percent of all votes in this demographic and the support of a majority in 32 of the 40 states for which relevant exit-poll data are available. Republicans under the age of 30 were more divided, with 34 percent voting for John McCain, 31 percent for Mike Huckabee, 25 percent for Mitt Romney, and 10 percent for Ron Paul.

Yet another reason McCain should give Governor Huckabee the nod.
Survey USA is currently taking a series of polls to determine the VP candidate (Out of Governor Huckabee, Senator Lieberman, Governor Pawlenty, and Governor Romney) who will help John McCain the most.
So far they have taken polls in Pennsylvania, New Mexico, Virginia, California, Ohio, Iowa, Kansas, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Oregon, New York, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Alabama, and Kentucky.
In almost every case, Governor Mike Huckabee has done best. Even in Massachusetts where Romney was once Governor, Huckabee proved to be the most helpful candidate for John McCain in terms of winning votes.
