A Family Affair

Charmaine Crouse Yoest, a Ph.D. who’s made a career outside academe, has signed on as a senior adviser to the Huckabee campaign. Her husband — Jack Yoest — has been writing about her work at Reasoned Audacity, the blog they share. Over the New Year’s holiday, the couple made the campaign a family affair and took their five young kids on the road to Iowa. One blog excerpt pictures one of their sons with Chuck Norris — a Huckabee supporter.

Ms. Yoest earned her Ph.D. in politics from the University of Virginia, where she served as director of the Family, Gender and Tenure Project. But she decided not to go on the market for a typical academic job. One reason, she told The Chronicle back then, was that she knew earning tenure while managing five kids would be difficult. Instead she took a job as vice president of communications at the Family Research Council. She’s on leave now from that post. And from a look at the blog, it sounds like Mr. Yoest is holding down the home front.
