Obama's Hoops Buddy Played for Duke
One of the first faces Sen. Barack Obama sees each morning is that of Reggie Love, his personal aide.
All the major candidates have what is called a “body man,” which the Chicago Tribune describes as a traveling valet who caters to a candidate’s needs on the trail. Mr. Love packs jackets for his boss and keeps his favorite music loaded on the iPod.
But for the athletically inclined Mr. Obama, the job of personal aide includes making sure the candidate gets out of bed on time for his 45-minute morning workout.
Mr. Love, 25, also regularly serves as Mr. Obama’s opponent on the basketball court. He’s no slouch. The 6-foot-4 Mr. Love was on Duke University’s 2001 team, which won the national championship. He was also a top wide receiver on Duke’s football team and played briefly in the NFL.
He says he never goes easy on Mr. Obama on the court.
“There is nothing worse than losing to Barack Obama,” Mr. Love said in the article. “You never hear the end of it.”
Mr. Obama, himself a high-school basketball star, has other college-hoops connections. His brother-in-law, Craig Robinson, coaches Brown University’s men’s team.

Two fluff pieces on Obama in one day? Why not devote the space to examining his opposition to such pro-black policies as school choice and social security privatization, or has the Chronicle now joined the Obama campaign?

The only “pro-black” arguments for social security privatization that I have heard are 1) that “they” are so poor that they need spendable money now, and 2) that it won’t matter because “they” don’t live very long anyway. Reject privatization schemes that favor the rich, and work on the real problems of inequality and inequity (not to mention iniquity) in our society.

I’m lucky if I can get to the gym three times a week. This guy is able to get in a workout every day even though he is running for President?! He’s got time management skills, I’ll grant him that. Or sleep deprivation. (Although he also has a 6’4” former NFL wide receiver kicking him out of the rack every morning.)
