When Hyphens Are Important

When we came across a news release announcing right off that the University of Florida “receives approval for small animal hospital expansion,” we might have skipped reading on. Small expansion — so what?

What the headline meant, it turns out, was: “UF receives approval for small-animal hospital expansion.” The expansion, you see, is not small at all — almost $60-million for 90,000 square feet.

There is little detail about the project in the news release, but the item notes that the university plans to start looking for an architect.
