Towers Dating to 1964 Will Be Razed, Brigham Young U. Says

Brigham Young University will demolish the remaining five buildings in its Deseret Towers housing complex, the university announced in a news release. Five of the seven buildings were constructed in 1964, while the other two were added in 1969 and 1978. Each of the seven-story buildings could house as many as 264 students.

Two of the towers were demolished last year, and the others are empty now. The university said the buildings’ mechanical systems were failing and that the towers did not appeal to students seeking apartment-style living. In place of the complex, the university has been exploring partnerships with private developers interested in constructing new student housing.
