Those of us who are missing the “Greening the Campus VII” sustainability conference going on at Ball State University can keep up virtually. The Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education is posting stream-of-consciousness blog entries here.
A speech by David Orr, of Oberlin College, is covered, in which the professor of environmental studies seems to argue that sustainability efforts should be more socially engaged. If we’re not careful, he says, we could have a sustainable but fascist society.
A talk by David Concepcion, an associate professor of philosophy at Ball State, speaks to the topic of, well, conception. Should we continue to reproduce at the rates we have been? Are we morally obligated not to?
The blog entries are impressionistic, jumbled, and sometimes terse, but they do seem to convey some of the main points.
