New Residence Halls Open at Vanderbilt U. Commons

Vanderbilt University has opened five new residence halls in a community for freshmen called the Commons. The buildings comprise about 280,000 square feet, and a couple of them have gotten silver certification in the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design program.

The five new buildings are part of a complex that also includes five renovated buildings, a residence for a dean, and the Commons Center, which includes a dining room, community space, an exercise facility, and so on. Street Dixon Rick Architecture, a Nashville firm, designed the master plan for the Commons, as well as the five new buildings.

Some faculty members will reside in the Commons, contributing to what Vanderbilt is calling a “live and learn” environment.
