More Highlights From the Sustainability Conference

November 11, 2008, 10:00 am

Raleigh, N.C. — In covering the national conference for the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education, The Chronicle has competition. But since the conference is all about sharing resources and ideas, we’ll highlight the work of other people who are writing from here.

Xarissa Holdaway, a writer for the National Wildlife Federation’s Campus Ecology blog and a former guest blogger for Buildings & Grounds, is writing a series of articles about sessions here. She covered the opening keynote by Lester Brown, an well-known environmental activist and author of Plan B 3.0: Mobilizing to Save Civilization.

Ms. Holdaway also wrote about a session that featured Gordon Rands of Western Illinois University and Mark Starik of George Washington University discussing the need to take sustainability initiatives beyond the campus border and into the surrounding community.

The folks at AASHE also maintain their own blog. The staff members are blasting out dispatches about various sessions and posting Flickr pictures from the conference. They are also distributing podcasts. Here is an interview with this morning’s speaker, Vandana Shiva.
