These cottages were inspired by the Arts and Crafts movement that influenced regional architecture throughout the Philadelphia suburbs. The cottages feature Wissahickon schist walls and steeply pitched roofs with thick, gray-blue shingles. Cottages house eight to twelve students apiece. Each structure features a covered front porch, a foyer, and a large living and dining area with cathedral ceilings, and an open-style kitchen. The cottages are arranged around a courtyard perfect for casual gatherings and afternoon visiting.

I grew up 15 minutes from the campus of the College of the New Church, the Pitcairn Estate and the mother cathedral of the New Church overlooking Huntingdon Valley at and within the borough of Bryn Athyn. Bryn Athyn is a magical place located in southeast Montgomery County, not far from the borders of northeast Philadelphia to the east and Bucks County to the north. The 2nd Street (Huntingdon) Pike; which contects Fox Chase in Philadelphia with New Hope, PA and Lambertville, NJ; intersects the borough. If in the area, go there. The cathedral and the surrounding village are well worth the visit. Alan MacNutt
