Stuart Hall and James Hall

Dickinson College, Carlisle, Pa.

Building Type: Science

Construction Type: New

Cost: $30-million

Square Footage: 140,000

Architect: Zimmer Gunsul Frasca Architects

Contractor: Reynolds Construction Management Inc.

Opened: 2008

This 140,000-square-foot science facility includes teaching and research space for biochemistry and molecular biology, chemistry, bioinformatics, psychology, and neuroscience. The facility has three wings connected by a spine that is the social heart of the building. The design balances a contemporary look with sloped roofs and limestone that echo older campus buildings. Multiple courtyards have been integrated to facilitate indoor and outdoor teaching and interaction. The buildings received LEED gold certification.
