Building Type: Academic

Construction Type: New

Cost: $17.2-million

Square Footage: 50,000

Sherrerd Hall was designed for the department of operations research and financial engineering and the Center for Information Technology Policy. It will accommodate increasing collaboration among researchers in computer science, mathematics, engineering and social sciences. The four-story glass-and-stone structure contains a 66-seat lecture hall, classrooms, computer studios, and an undergraduate lounge, as well as offices for faculty and staff members and graduate students. A simple plan organizes departmental offices and classrooms to maximize light and views, and directs circulation through a large atrium space, creating opportunities for casual encounters. A large bay defines the entry, while a porch above the bay provides outdoor access on the third floor.
