Complex for Science, Mathematics, and Technology

Wilson College (Pa.), Chambersburg, Pa.

Building Type: Science

Construction Type: Renovation

Cost: $25-million

Square Footage: 76,500

Architect: Performa Higher Education; Michaels Engineering

Contractor: R.S. Mowery and Sons Inc.

Opened: 2009

By renovating an existing 51,500-square-foot structure and adding 25,000 square feet of new space, this project preserved the Victorian Gothic character of the campus while creating a modern science facility that meets LEED sustainability standards. A two-story addition wraps around a renovated auditorium, creating a building that has instructional spaces, a greenhouse, a large central atrium, and a natural-history museum.
