Aiken Hall was built in 1885 as a private home and was later used as a 55-bed dormitory. It was renovated to accommodate faculty members who oversee the college’s core curriculum. Besides faculty and administrative offices, Aiken has lecture and event space as well as common areas intended to promote interaction between students and professors. During the renovation, much of what remained of the original fabric was restored, while the building’s energy efficiency was improved. Among other exterior changes, the building received a new slate-and-copper roof and new windows. The project earned gold-level LEED certification.
