3 Universities Win Design Awards for Educational Facilities

August 17, 2009, 1:30 pm

Three universities are among recipients of design awards from the American Institute of Architects’ Committee on Architecture for Education. The committee chose 13 projects—among them a number of elementary- and secondary-school facilities—for 2009 Facility Design Awards.

The universities are:

Yale University, which earned an excellence award for its Sculpture Building and Gallery, designed by Kieran Timberlake.

Arizona State University, which earned a merit award for its Polytechnic Academic Complex, in Mesa, by RSP Architects and Lake|Flato Architects

Cornell University, which earned a citation for its West Campus Residence Initiative, also by Kieran Timberlake.

Congratulations to the winners, but is it really too hard for the AIA to include a link, so the reader can judge at least the appearance of these modern masterworks? Here’s what I found on the architects’ own websites:Yale: http://www.kierantimberlake.com/featured_projects/sculpture_building_1.htmlArizona State: http://www.lakeflato.com/projects/asu/01.aspCornell: http://www.kierantimberlake.com/featured_projects/cook_house_1.htmlJim Stoner
