Should Ladies Ever Accept Free Drinks?

As I said in the previous post, drinking is never uncomplicated for women, especially for those of us who came of age during a time when we were encouraged to chip away at cultural taboos one ice cube at a time (a phrase I’ve adapted, with a curtsey, from a group calling itself Ladies United for the Preservation of Endangered Cocktails).

This is one of the reasons I knew that editing a collection on women and drinking—titled Make Mine a Double, and published this week by the University Press of New England—would be a good idea.
