I’m on Joy Behar’s Show Tonight, June 2nd

June 2, 2010, 7:00 pm

OK, this is down and dirty, quick and from a friend’s computer in NYC, where I just taped a segment for The Joy Behar show which will air tonight. You know what it’s like to do this kind of thing, right? You take an early train to the city—we’re talking just after dawn—and then you change into grown-up clothes in the train station bathroom.

You show up, try to look good, sound smart, be witty, and you leave without having a clue how you did.

The guests and topics are chosen by the host and the producers. I’m an admirer of Behar’s work and have been since she was doing stand-up at The Greene Street Cafe almost 20 years ago. I interviewed her for They Used to Call Me Snow White, But I Drifted and her remarks were by far the best things ANYBODY actually working as a comic said about women and comedy. I’ve followed the rise of her career with a genuine sense of delight—not only because she’s another loud-mouth Italian broad, but in part because of that fact—and I was more than excited to be asked to appear on tonight’s show.

We talked about the end of the Gore marriage (I’d just written about it for Psychology Today) and about Charlie Sheen going to jail. We talked about whether or not women who decide to take female lovers in midlife have always been lesbians or whether they just got fed-up with being heterosexual. We talked about “Bombshell” McGee’s comment that she’s not a racist, but she IS anti-Semitic.

You can’t make this stuff up—you can only get your hair done and comment on it, hoping that it works out.

Fimgers crossed.

Apart from the fact that the other comic hated you, it was great. Too bad she needed to draw your blood. Too many women on one panel?? They should have you back on your own.

The other comic is not Behar, but the other woman, whatever her name was. Behar was on your side.

I just read about your appearance this morning. I saw you last night, but came in after the panel had started and didn’t realize who you were. For the part I saw, I thought you did well! You looked like you were enjoying yourself. Congratulations on being asked to appear.
