Shop Talk: Money for Building in Michigan, New Campuses in Britain, and MoreLeft out: A billion-dollar stimulus package proposed by Michigan’s governor, Jennifer M. Granholm, provides money for new projects at Michigan State University, Eastern Michigan University, Saginaw Valley State University, and the University of Michigan’s three campuses, but does not include money for a number of projects at other colleges, including Central Michigan, Ferris State, Grand Valley State, and Western Michigan Universities and Grand Rapids Community College. In the stars: The University of Western Ontario will get a $9-million upgrade for its astronomy and physics building. The money is part of a $1.6-billion improvement plan in Ontario. Across the pond: British government officials plan to establish 20 new campuses across the country to serve more than 10,000 students — and they plan to do in within the next six years, The Times reports. The expansion will cost almost $300-million. Opening for business: The Indiana legislature has given the University of Southern Indiana $36-million to build a College of Business facility. Construction will begin this summer, and the building will open in 2010. Green Ivy: Princeton University has released its sustainability plan. Shortly after this plan came out, The Chronicle received an e-mail message from a group called “No Greenwash” that said the plan was not ambitious enough. We’ve linked to the plan. You decide.
