Modern Touches Amid Renovations at a Historic New York Seminary
The historic buildings at the General Theological Seminary in New York are undergoing some $100-million in renovations and new construction that feature some modern touches, The New York Times reports.
It is the oldest Episcopal seminary in the nation, with many gorgeous buildings, writes reporter Stacey Stowe. The seminary just opened a conference center that incorporated geothermal technology to heat and cool the building. It will soon have a new library, designed by Polshek Partnership, built on the site of a 20th-century building. The seminary sold its air rights for $32-million to a developer who will put up a seven-story building on the grounds. That deal caused some consternation among residents in the historic Chelsea area.
