Johnson County Community College has opened a $13-million art museum — designed by Kyu Sung Woo Architects, of Cambridge, Mass. — that The Kansas City Star says is “the perfect container for art.”

The new two-story building, the Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art, has 11,000 square feet of exhibition space as well as 5,400 square feet of academic space. An auditorium, a cafe, and storage areas fill out the building, which is connected to the college’s technology center by a 3,000-square-foot atrium. The architect of record is Gould Evans Associates.

The college, which serves more than 34,000 students each semester, is located on a 234-acre campus in Overland Park, Kan., near Kansas City. It was founded in 1972.

  1. WOW! And just when I thought that JCCC couldn’t possibly offer more art than it already has. For those of you who work in community colleges who have never had the pleasure of visiting JCCC
this is just another reason to drive out of your way to visit.
