Why Can't Johnny Search (Intelligently)?

No matter how tech-savvy today’s students are, many of them doing research online cannot distinguish infomercials from facts. A movement led by librarians to teach information literacy has caught on across the country, but some faculty members say such efforts are nothing new.

Are today’s students info-literate? Should colleges do more to help students navigate oceans of information?

An expert on information literacy will join us online tomorrow afternoon to answer your questions on the topic (send your questions now). The guest will be Diana G. Oblinger, a vice president of Educause, a nonprofit association that promotes the use of information technology in academe. She is responsible for the group’s teaching and learning activities. The discussion will take place tomorrow (Wednesday) at 2 p.m., U.S. Eastern time.
