Wake Forest Librarian to Be Honored for Sociology-Course Contributions

The Association of College and Research Libraries has selected Susan Sharpless Smith as the recipient of its 2008 Instruction Section Innovation Award. Ms. Smith, head of information technology at Wake University’s library, was chosen for her contributions to a sociology class last year that explored social divisions in the Deep South. She helped students create blogs, upload photographs, and develop a Web site while they traveled for two-weeks by bus through some southern states. Ms. Smith is set to receive a $3,000 cash prize and a plaque June 29 in Anaheim, Calif., at the annual conference of the American Library Association.—Andrea L. Foster
