Waiting for Vista

Microsoft’s new Vista operating system may have been one of the most-anticipated software titles in computing history. But now that the program has been released, technology officials at Cornell University are in no hurry to try it out.

Cornell’s information-technology department does not plan to support the new operating system until next semester at the earliest, The Cornell Daily Sun reports. Why the delay? Campus officials say there’s “no compelling reason” for computers using Windows XP to make the upgrade, and the university wants to devise a comprehensive plan for supporting Vista before it makes piecemeal changes. —Brock Read
