Using RFID to Track Exam Cheaters

Radio-frequency-identification technology has been used to track livestock, merchandise, and library books, among other things. Now a British testing company has announced plans to embed RFID tags into packages of university entrance exams and high-school-equivalency tests, reports Ars Technica. Each tag will be used to detect whether someone has opened the package before the authorized testing period. The company will also use a computer-based system to determine if students may have cheated on exams. The technology flags scores that far exceed others and subjects those exams to an analysis. --Andrea L. Foster
