U. of North Texas Catalogs the Photos of the JFK Investigation You Haven't Seen
Ever wanted to see a photograph of Lee Harvey Oswald's copy of the book 1984? Probably not (it looks remarkably like any other copy of the book), but if you ever do, the University of North Texas has made it easy with its new digital catalog of photos from the Dallas Police Department's investigation of the John F. Kennedy assassination.
The Dallas Morning News reports that the university's Digital Projects Unit has put 404 photographs from the investigation on its Portal to Texas History Web site. All the photos had been available to the public on a Web site run by the city of Dallas, but the new site reproduces the images in higher resolution and makes them easier to view.
While most of the photographs are mundane (read: dozens of photos of the exterior and interior of the school book depository from where Oswald fired at JFK, a couple of pictures of Oswald's "Fair Play for Cuba" card, and many more of things just labeled "evidence"), there are some interesting images (although none of JFK himself).
With enough poking around you can find portraits of Oswald posing with his rifle, picnicking and drinking from tiny bottles with a lady friend, and even lying dead in a morgue. There's even one shot of strippers from Jack Ruby's club, because what would a collection of police photos be without at least some salacious material?

This attempt at humor is pretty misguided, given the severity of the crime involved. Next time, write this as a straight news story rather than trying to be funny.

Blog or not, the attempt at humor is still in poor taste. This is still a part of the Chronicle, not the blog of an individual in cyberspace.
