Texas A&M Takes No Chances

Officials at the Texas A&M University system think they snuffed out a recent hacking attempt before the attacker made off with any sensitive information. But the university is not in a gambling mood: It has told 96,000 people who use its computer network to change their passwords, according to the Associated Press.

The hacker was spotted trying to break into files listing encrypted passwords this weekend, and campus administrators say there is no evidence that any of the files were actually cracked. "There is good indication that we caught them in the act," said Tom Putnam, Texas A&M's executive director of computing and information services. --Brock Read
