Stung By Hacks, Ohio U.'s CIO Steps Down
A string of highly publicized hacking incidents at Ohio University (The Chronicle, June 2) that enraged professors and alumni has claimed the job of William Sams, the chief information officer.
Mr. Sams, who also serves as associate provost for information technology, announced today that he would resign as soon as his replacement is found, reports The Columbus Dispatch. "[A] new energy level and skill set is going to be required to allow our organization to realize its potential," the beleaguered administrator said in a statement.
Whoever takes Mr. Sams’s place will be asked to do yeoman’s service over the next year: The university plans to spend up to $4-million on a thorough revamping of its information-technology staff and infrastructure. —Brock Read
