Student Newspaper Sues U. of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Over Blocked Records
The student newspaper at the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee is suing the institution to get access to information it redacted from records of a public meeting. The university asserts it could not release student names and other information in the records without violating the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, according to The Badger-Herald, the University of Wisconsin at Madison's student paper. The Milwaukee campus is standing by its interpretation of the federal student-privacy law. Tom Luljak, vice chancellor for university relations and communications, told The Chronicle: "The university has asked the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Post and its attorneys for any authoritative interpretation of Ferpa that would support the Post's position in this matter, and none has been provided."
