State Web Sites Link Students to Financial Aid

In an effort to help prospective students—and their parents—navigate the confusing world of college finances, a number of states are setting up Web sites that provide one-stop shopping for financial aid.

According to the Associated Press, about 35 states now run sites like Georgia’s GAcollege411, which collects details on state colleges, information on how to apply, and links to aid programs and state-sponsored scholarships. For some states, the Web portals are serious ventures: North Carolina spends about $1-million a year to run its site, and more than 1.3 million people have registered for accounts. —Brock Read
