Landmark upgrade: The University of California at Berkeley plans to renovate Cloyne Court, a 1904 student co-op designed by John Galen Howard, who was the university architect from 1901 to 1922. The renovation will make the building (right) better able to withstand earthquakes and more accessible to visitors with disabilities.
Hurricane damage: A number of athletic events at Louisiana State University at Baton Rouge have been canceled because Hurricane Gustav damaged the university’s stadium, field house, and natatorium, as well as two stadiums still under construction—one for baseball and one for softball.
Speaking the language: Alan Osborne, architect for the new Language House at Reed College, designed it to blend in with the neighborhood.
Round Rock quintuplets: The new Round Rock, Tex., campus of Austin Community College is due to get five buildings—three for instruction plus a library and a utility plant.
Thinking green: Planners at Marquette University hope to have three new buildings certified under the LEED standards.
