Proposed Legislation in Pennsylvania Would Forbid Cities to Tax Tuition
A bill introduced in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives today would prevent local governments from imposing a tax on college tuition, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported. The bill, which has nearly 30 co-sponsors, was introduced in response to a proposal by Mayor Luke Ravenstahl, of Pittsburgh, to levy a 1-percent tax on tuition paid by students at colleges in the city. Mr. Ravenstahl, who met with several college presidents today, said he would vigorously oppose the measure.
