Private Records Were Online at the U. of Chicago
It doesn’t always take a hacker to expose sensitive data. At the University of Chicago, a student stumbled upon a cache of grades and Social Security numbers while browsing public files on Krypton, the server that hosts most of the institution’s Web sites. Until recently, when campus officials removed the personal data, anyone authorized to edit the university’s Web pages could examine the material. (Chicago Maroon)
